Melissa Musante 414.305.2109 Her last name "Musante" translates roughly to "lover of the Muses". This is entirely appropriate as Melissa's interests and talents range across all of the arts. Her background in theater, music, and filmmaking come together in her visual art as bursts of color and movement.
Melissa currently lives in Milwaukee, WI with her husband Steven. In addition to creating and showing still works,
she is currently working on three film projects: The Linden Affair, 261, and Knots.
"I embrace the full range of media available to the artist. Each work deserves the dignity to be created in the
media that will best express the work's sense of self, give it its voice. Because of this I reject the notion
of being labeled a filmmaker or musician, painter, sculptor, or photographer and prefer to be acknowledged as an
artist. While people may be critical of this approach I must acknowledge that for my personal creative process
I must explore all these avenues to be happiest and hence capable of creating work worthy of sharing."
Steven has been a musician all his life. His career includes over 25 years of playing rock, pop, top-40 and jazz. He has collaborated with many of the bands he has played with to compose original music of many genres. Since attending music school he has played with big bands, accompanied solo performers and a range of small-stage acts. His experience with audio recording and sound reinforcement range from home project studios to large venue sound systems. Steven's primary musical influences are Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus and Jimmy Haslip. But he also takes inspiration from artists of other disciplines such as Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Joan Miro and Frank Lloyd Wright.
His philosophy of playing is simple: know the song, listen to the players, carry
the bottom line and always be willing to express yourself. Steven plays on Ergo
electric upright and Brian Moore & Fender Jazz bass guitars and uses Eden amplification.
